(NCSA Venezuela) On the 11th of October 2018, Pastor Alfredo Gómez, the district coordinator of evangelism, along with his team, opened a new mission of the Church of the Nazarene in the Amazon State of Venezuela. The mission is located in the “La Florida” neighborhood in the city of Puerto Ayacucho, in the Atures region.

After months of prayer, Rev. Jimmy De Gouveia, District Superintendent, and Pastor Gómez received God´s direction to start a pilot church in Amazon State. Amazon State is one of the largest states in the country, with an approximate population of 175,000. Until this time the Church of the Nazarene has not had a presence in the state.

Pastor Gómez designated Sister Yenny Vargas as leader of the mission. She will receive training in “The Route of Hope,” Jesus Film, and other evangelistic tools.

On the 12th of October Vargas along with Pastors Alfred and María “Mavi” Gómez, along with Rony and Alvys Cabarcas, Josefina Hidalgo and Maritza Estudillo, walked through the community to do evangelism and invite the residents of the neighborhood to participate in a showing of the Jesus Film (20 people viewed the Jesus Film, and 12 made a profession of faith). After the Jesus Film showing the church held its first Sunday service.
